‘Through the Decades’ Line Dance Social NightÂ
A great time was had by all at our ‘through the decades’ themed line dance social night. Lots of people dressed up – we had Elvis, Abba and Pink Ladies and covered the roaring 20’s, swinging sixties and seventies and more… See below for photos from the evening.Â
The theme was ‘through the decades’ as a number of us are celebrating ‘big 0’ birthdays this year. Diana who turned 70 (yes, that’s impossible to believe!) kindly shared bucks fizz, party food and ice-creams with us all which was such a treat!
We spent the evening dancing requests as well as a couple of dances added to the program to represent different decades, including a fun mixer dance – Patty Cake Polka – which has probably been danced for over 100 years
Of course, the 90s wouldn’t have been the same without ‘Achy Breaky Heart’ by Billy Ray Cyrus, so we danced to this too:
We had a lot of requests and unfortunately we did not have enough time to dance them all. Here’s a list of the dances we were able to fit in:
Patty Cake Polka, Caribbean Pearl, Achy Breaky Heart, Coastin’, Cowboy Charleston, Do You Remember, Irish Stew, Groovy Love
Black Coffee, We Love It! California, Maverick Shuffle, Islands in the Stream, La Fiesta Cubana, Vanotek Cha, Rocket to the Sun
Pot of Gold, Graffiti, Electric Slide, Havana Ooh Na Na, Ruby Ruby, Chill Factor, Better When I’m Dancin’, Mamma Mia! Why Me?   Feel the Way I Do, The Queen, Nimby EZ, Dancing in the Dark, T-Bone Shuffle, Rita’s Waltz, Precious Time
A huge ‘thank you’ to everyone who helped to clear up at the end of the evening. We had a spot of bother trying to get to a balloon that had floated up to the ceiling. The men came up with a great way (or was it?) of getting it down. Watch this video to see what happened:
Click on the photos below to view them – there were some super costumes. You can also see other photos on our facebook page
Of course, it goes without saying that we had to include line dance classics like ‘Black Coffee’, ‘Coastin”, ‘Pot of Gold’, ‘T-Bone Shuffle’ and ‘Islands in the Stream’ in our ‘through the decades’ themed social night.
Here’s a video of us dancing ‘Black Coffee’ to ‘Sometimes When We Touch’ by Newton
Three of our current favourite dances that received a large number of requests were La Fiesta Cubana, Vanotek Cha and Graffiti – really super dances that we hope will remain popular for many years to come:
Here’s a video of La Fiesta Cubana
and here’s Vanotek Cha
and here’s the dance ‘Graffiti’ that we have learnt recently – it has a couple of tags and restarts to remember, but it’s a fantastic dance
We included plenty of dances that our beginners could join in with too. Here’s a video of one of our popular beginner level dances – ‘Do You Remember’
Thank you to everyone who came along to our social evening and made it such fun! Our next social night is on Saturday 18th May – looking forward to seeing you there 🙂
